If Access XP does not function
properly on a computer, what can I do to fix it? |
Details:
| |
If after
installing SOL Tracker 4 for the first time the program functions in an
irregular manner, such as stopping and exiting soon after the program
starts or immediately after logging in, the first thing you should do is reboot and compact the
Program File and Data File. If that does not
resolve the issue, try re-installing the software. If you continue to
experience problems, try the following steps:
- Ensure that the Client for Microsoft
Networks is installed on the computer. This is required by
Access, even if your Data File resides on the local hard
drive.
- If the program appears to stop responding
immediately after the small white "Welcome to SOL Tracker" screen appears,
and before any other messages or log in prompt, then it could be that
there is an issue preventing the AutoUpdate feature from checking the
Internet for updated versions of the software (maybe Proxy Server
settings). The program could be waiting for an excessively long
timeout response. If these symptoms appear, you can attempt to
manually disable the AutoUpdate feature to see if the program starts
normally. Check here for instructions on
performing those steps.
- Ensure that the computer's Operating
System is up to date by performing all required Windows Updates.
There should be an icon for this under your Windows Start menu.
- Install the System
Files Update from the SOL Tracker Installation CD Menu (applicable to
pre-Windows XP machines only).
- If you have full
Office XP, ensure that all required Office Updates have been
installed. This can be accessed at by clicking on the Check for
Updates link at
http://office.microsoft.com/officeupdate/default.aspx.
-
If you
have the Access XP Runtime installed, ensure that you have applied the
Access 2002 Runtime SP-2 Update that can be run from
the SOL Tracker
Installation CD Menu, or downloaded from
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;en-us;813617&Product=acc2002.
- Run the
RefSnoop.exe utility that in on the SOL Tracker Installation CD in the
RefSnoop folder. Follow the directions and analyze each entry in the
log. Look for any entry that displays "File Not Found". This
indicates a necessary file that was not installed for some reason.
- Install the
Jet
Engine 4.0 SP-1 Update:
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=kb;EN-US;282010.
-
Install
the MDAC 2.6 SP-2 Update (Microsoft Data Access Components):
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=8e5f816c-4918-4250-b8bd-3794582c9089&DisplayLang=en.
-
Install
the MDAC 2.7 SP-1 Update (Microsoft Data Access Components):
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=9ad000f2-cae7-493d-b0f3-ae36c570ade8&DisplayLang=en
- If you have full
Office XP, Uninstall and re-install Access XP.
