Summary:

How can we use our data from the previous version with the current version?

Details:

If you have upgraded to a new minor version of the software (i.e.; from 3.0 to 3.1), or to a new revision (i.e.; 3.1a to 3.1b), then there is no need to take any special steps with your Data File.  Merely attach to your older Data File with the newly installed version or revision, and any necessary steps will be performed on the data by the program (this is called a "Data File update").

If you are upgrading to a new major version of the software (i.e.; from 3.1 to 4.0), then you will need to use a tool named the Data File Converter.  This tool comes installed with the new software, and there should be a shortcut for it and its documentation.  The Data File Converter is designed to import the data from your old Data File into a newer Data File that is compatible with the newer software (this is called a "Data File upgrade").  Typically with new major versions new data fields are added, so there may be pros and cons to upgrading your existing data in this manner versus re-importing some or all data using the newer version.  Refer to the SOL Tracker User's Guide for more information on making this decision.
